Although this is technically a Christian Sect- I have given it its own playlist due firstly to the amount of content I have on it and also because it is one of the largest Christian sects in the world. Cult or not? let's dive in to some of the practices and beliefs and decide for ourselves.

Jehovah's Witnesses: A Faith of Devotion and Controversy

Emerging in the late 19th century, the Jehovah's Witnesses have grown to be a globally recognized religious group, known for their distinct beliefs, door-to-door evangelism, and strict adherence to biblical interpretation. Central to their doctrine is the belief in the imminent establishment of God's Kingdom on Earth, the non-celebration of traditional Christian holidays and birthdays, and a unique stance on medical procedures like blood transfusions.

While many members find solace, purpose, and community within the Jehovah's Witnesses, the organization has not been without controversy. Issues like shunning former members, their handling of child abuse allegations, and conscientious objection to military service have brought them under scrutiny. Yet, to truly understand the Jehovah's Witnesses, one must listen to the myriad experiences of those within and those who have left the fold.

In this episode I sit and chat with Laurin. Laurin has a complicated life which she explores in this episode that comes with an estranged father in the centre of this story. Her father is currently a Jehovah's Witnesses Elder despite holding previous positions during his JW tenure that include bearing arms and political employment as well as committing bigamy and adultery. Does this hold consequence over Laurin's father's current position of Elder in the JW church? Should it hold consequence?
